Itinerary
DAY 1 : WELCOME TO LEH AIRPORT (FLY IN)
Arrival at Leh Kushok Bakula Airport (This must be one of the Most Sensational Flights in the World. On a clear day from one side of the aircraft can be seen in the distance the peaks of K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum and on the other side of the aircraft, so close that you feel you could reach out and touch it, is the Nun Kun massif).
Upon arrival you will be meet and greet with our representative and transfer to Hotel for Check in. Complete day for rest and leisure to acclimatize followed by Welcome Tea or Coffee at the Hotel. Evening visit to Leh Market. (If time permit). Overnight stay at Hotel in Leh.
DAY 2 : LEH LOCAL SIGHTSEEING
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to view some of top most attractions in Ladakh Trip :
- Thiksey Monastery - Thiksey Monastery is located on a hill-lock with formidable views of the Indus valley. Thiksey is especially noteworthy for its gigantic seated statue of the Maitreya and is also known for its (Dukhang) assembly hall which houses hundreds of rectangular prayer books, stacked between wooden covers and bound in silk.
- Shey Monastery - the former summer palace of the King of Ladakh. The Shey Monastery or Gompa and the Shey Palace complex are structures located on a hillock in Shey, 15 kilometres to the south of Leh in Ladakh, northern India on the Leh-Manali road. Shey was the old capital of the upper Ladakh region. When the Dogras of Jammu invaded Ladakh in 1842, the Namgyals abandoned the palace and fled to Stok (they made it their permanent residence) on the opposite side of the Indus River. It is conjectured that the fort found in ruins, not dated, above the present palace at Shey, belonged to this period of invasion. Subsequently, when the political dictates necessitated shifting of the capital to Leh, even then the importance of Shey continued since it was a mandatory requirement of the Namgyal kings to father their heir apparent here.
- 3 Idiot School - This school is also known as "The Druk White Lotus School" located in Shey, Ladakh, in northern India, and is known locally as the "Druk Padma Karpo School". Karpo means White and Padma means Lotus in the local language Bodhi. The school got its name 3 idiot school after the famous Indian actor Mr. Amir Khan cast his memorable movie 3 idiots here.
- Leh Palace - Leh Palace is a former royal palace overlooking the town of Leh, Ladakh, in the Indian Himalayas. It is nine storeys high, the upper floors accommodated the royal family, while the lower floors held stables and store rooms. The Palace Museum holds a rich collection of jewellery, ornaments, ceremonial dresses and crowns. The palace is being restored by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), this palace is open to the public and the roof provides panoramic views of Leh and the surrounding areas.
DAY 3 : LEH TO KARGIL VIA MAGNETIC HILL
After breakfast you drive downstream along the River Indus on Leh – Kargil Highway. Enroute visit :
- Gurudwara Patthar Sahib - nestled deep in the Himalayas, a drive of another 4 km took us to Magnetic Hill which defies the law of gravity & further driving through a picturesque landscape we reached the Confluence Of The Indus And Zanskar River.
- Likir Monastery - is one of the most active monasteries in the region. As you drive up to the monastery a recently installed colossal gilded image of the Maitreya out in the open is one of the most impressive sights in Ladakh. On the way you may visit:
- Alchi Monastery - Alchi Monastery or Alchi Gompa is a Buddhist Monastery, known more as a monastic complex (chos-'khor) of temples in Alchi village in the Leh District, under the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council of the Ladakh Union Territory. The complex comprises four separate settlements in the Alchi village in the lower Ladakh region with monuments dated to different periods. Of these four hamlets, Alchi monastery is said to be the oldest and most famous. En-route visiting the mesmerizing Moon Landscapes. Later Drive to KARGIL over Fatu-la (13,489 ft) which is the highest pass on Srinagar - Leh road. Upon arrival in Kargil we check in at Hotel. Overnight at Kargil.
DAY 4 : KARGIL TO LEH ENROUTE SIGHTSEEING TO LAMAYURU MONASTERY [VIA NH1]
- Lamayuru Monastery: After breakfast you drive downstream along the River Indus on Kargil – Leh Highway, after visiting the Monastery you continue your drive towards Kargil enroute visiting the 11th century Lamayuru Monastery (Oldest Monastery in Ladakh)
After check in the hotel evening is free for the personal activities and local market visit for shopping. Overnight at Leh Hotel.|
DAY 5 : LEH TO NUBRA VALLEY VIA MIGHTY KHARDUNGLA PASS [VIA KHARDUNG LA RD]
After Breakfast drive to Nubra Valley via Khardungla Pass (Highest Motorable road in the World, 18,380 ft). Arrive at Hundur Village by Afternoon. Enjoy Double Hump Camel Safari in sand dunes between Deskit and Hunder Village. Overnight at Nubra Valley.
DAY 6 : NUBRA TO PANGONG ENROUTE SIGHTSEEING TO DISKIT MONASTERY [VIA PANGONG LAKE RD]
After Breakfast you may visit Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, northern India. It belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
Crossing Khardungla Pass reach Pangong by afternoon. Evening free time for personal activities and enjoy the panoramic view of Holi Pangong Tso. Overnight at Pangong.
DAY 7 : PANGONG LAKE TO LEH VIA MIGHTY CHANGLA PASS AND HEMIS MONASTERY [5H 8MIN (224.6 KM) VIA PANGONG LAKE RD]
After breakfast visit Lake for Sun rise, latter on start for Leh through Changla Pass 17,350 ft. it is the second highest motorable road in the world. As per the medics, it is advisable to not stay at the top for more than 20-25 mins as it could be detrimental to health owing to its high altitude. On the way to Leh you may visit :
- Hemis Monastery - Hemis Monastery is a Himalayan Buddhist Monastery (Gompa) of the Drukpa Lineage, in Hemis, Ladakh, India. The monastery was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal. Hemis Monastery existed before the 11th century. Naropa, the pupil of the yogi Tilopa, and teacher of the translator Marpa is connected with this monastery. A translation was made by A. Grünwedel (Naro und Tilo: Festschrift Ernst Kuhn, München 1916) of Naropa's biography that was found in Hemis Monastery.
- Sindhu Ghat - Sindhu Ghat is the bank of the Indus River in the Ladakh. There is a beautiful place called Sindhu Darshan Point. In the evening walk around Local Market. Overnight at Leh.|
DAY 8 : DEPART TO AIRPORT (FLY OUT)
